Why is it beneficial for food start-ups to get FSSAI License?


To start any kind of food business in India, one should have a Food License according to the Indian Government. Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) is an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. FSSAI is formed in the year 2006. FSSAI headquarters is located in New Delhi.

For ensuring safety as well as quality check of food or products that are eatable that are sold through online or stored in warehouses the FSSAI had made the FSSAI License a mandatory requirement.

  1. Central FSSAI License for business turnover more than 20 crores- Form B.
  2. State FSSAI License for business turnover between 12 lakhs to 20 crores-Form b.
  3. FSSAI registration for business turnover up to 12 lakhs- Form A basic license.


FSSAI is a body that governs and look after all the matter of the food business in India. FSSAI is 14-digit number. It is mandatory for each and every business operator of food who are engaged in the processing, manufacturing and sales of food products should have the FSSAI registration done.

To apply for FSSAI in India, one should follow the rules made by the Central as well as State licensing authority. Then it shall be accompanied by a self-attested declaration. After that there will be through inspection and later license shall be issued after two months. Now, if any operator is applying for the renewal of the license, have to apply prior to 30days of the expiry date of the license.
