What is APEDA registration? APEDA registration Process By Vishesh Jangir

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is an Export Promotion Council founded by Government of India under the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) Act 1985. With this act coming into effect, APEDA replaced the Processed Food Export Promotion Council (PFEPC).

 

Objectives of APEDA

The objective behind establishing APEDA was to promote the growth of export of agricultural products which have been specified under APEDA Act. It does so through measures such as:-

  • Registration of Exporters of APEDA’s products through RCMC Certificate to help them grow their businesses
  • Financial assistance to exporters who are members of APEDA via various schemes
  • Fixing standards and specifications for the purpose of export
  • Carrying out inspection for ensuring the quality of products
  • Improving packaging and marketing for better a better product offering in the global market
  • Promotion of export-oriented production to increase exports
  • Collection and publication of useful statistics
  • Conducting training to educate exporters about latest practices in the industry

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) was passed by the Parliament in the year 1985 on the month of December and came into force from 13th of February in the year 1986 by the notification provided by the Gazette of India. The headquarters of APEDA is located in New Delhi and has 5 regional offices located in Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Guwahati. APEDA is a Government Agency. The purpose of APEDA is to export promotion of agricultural as well as processed food products.For doing the registration under the APEDA, the applicant must submit the application form within 1 month from the date of commencing the business. After the application form is filed and paid by the applicant, the authority will provide Registration- Cum- Membership- Certificate (RCMC). The registration is for one time registration and all the members registered under this are governed by the rules as well regulations under the APEDA Act.

 

Presently, Agriculture gives 14% to India’s total export and 6% to total industrial investment. The principal cause behind the establishment of APEDA Registration for the export of agricultural goods is the promotion and development of the scheduled products export. Further, it has been established to offer financial assistance, provide guidelines, and also to provide information concerning the progress of products that is scheduled. The exporters of all the scheduled products are made mandatory to register themselves under the APEDA. It is compulsory to note down that any person willing to acquire the APEDA registration for the export of agricultural goods must acquire first the registration for Import Export Code. Moreover, this registration is a one-time registration process and remains valid unless and until the Authority cancels it.

APEDA registration in India is required for the following reasons:

a) For the exportation of scheduled products, the requirement of APEDA registration is of utmost compulsory.
b) The exporters can get the different financial assistance schemes that comes under the APEDA Act.
c) The APEDA registration helps the exporters in the publicity of brand through the form of advertisement, packaging development, database up- gradation and surveys etc.
d) The APEDA registration provides guidelines to the exporters about the different products and the countries for export.
e) The members that are registered can participate in the training programmers led by the APEDA for different scheduled products which improve their business.
